This place was simply amazing. The location and views were seriously to die for. Best experience on Airbnb ever!

Richard from San Diego, CA – June, 2017

“This place was simply amazing. The location and views were seriously to die for. Such an awesome set up that is water front on some amazing volcanic cliffs. The host Mike was also the best host I have experienced on airbnb. He sent out awesome info prior to the trip and was insightful upon arrival even helping change our evening plans to see the lava at night time. Best experience on airbnb ever!!!!! Thanks so much Mike”

Gorgeous property. Sleep with the sound of the ocean waves crashing right on the cliffs!

Antonietta from Los Angeles, CA – June, 2017

“Beautiful property: sleep with the sound of the ocean waves crashing right on the cliffs. Gorgeous sunrise daily. The location is lovely, but the house was a spacious surprise after staying in more of a “beach shack” on Oahu days prior… updated interiors, tons of space for our group of 6.5 family. Great kitchen for family meals! And, what a great surprise on arrival to have a little welcome basket for our family to enjoy! Great communication from Mike on where to go and what to do! The Welcome Book was a Big Island Bible of best sights and to-dos… we loved Uncle Roberts and the tidepools!! Would definitely return!”

The ocean views and waves crashing on the cliffs are so relaxing it makes it difficult to leave.

Evelyn from Menifee, CA – May, 2017

“Having made two trips to Pali Hale in less than a year, I am in love with the comfortable beautiful home and plan to return in 2018. The ocean view and waves on the cliffs are relaxing and make it difficult to leave. If you love the rainforest feel you will love Pali Hale as I do.  The home is very clean and well equipped with supplies.  Mike and Bo are available to answer your questions and are very helpful in planning activities.  The housekeeper is awesome and makes sure you feel welcomed. I already miss the sound of the waves, the friendly nenes, the frogs and the astonishing beauty surrounding the home.  My next trip in 2018 won’t come soon enough.”

The house and views were so gorgeous we had a hard time leaving each morning.

Jimmy from Arkansas, USA – April, 2017

“Mike and Bo, where do I start. Your hospitality and communication were unmatched in our stay on the islands! Your house was gorgeous and we had a hard time leaving each morning. My wife’s favorite was out drinking coffee on the balcony watching the sunrise. And the little things from your caretaker leaving us an anniversary note and snacks to the amenities in the house were fantastic! Thank you for letting us visit and stay in your paradise home. Mahalo!”

House is really beautiful with a full panorama of the ocean

Jonathan from China – April, 2017

“Everything was really great. House is really beautiful with full panorama of only the ocean. Can hear at night the waves beating on the rocks. House was fully equipped with scuba gear, barbecue, kitchen tools and beach blankets. There is a living room upstairs and downstairs so could have 4-6 people with good space. Everyday we found something fun to do for 12 hours each day. House was really clean and comfortable.”

We could have sat on the Lanai all day long just watching and listening to the waves roll in.

David from Santa Cruz, CA – April, 2017

“We recently spent 9 glorious nights at Pali Hale. The house had everything we needed (living space, bedrooms, really high speed Internet, fully outfitted kitchen, laundry room, deck for ocean gazing, etc) for our perfect stay on the Hilo side. We really enjoyed waking up before sunrise to start each day by watching the sun rise (something we don’t get on the California coast). We went to the Sunday Farmers market in Maku’u to get our fresh fruits and vegetables and pick up some local food. We also went to Uncle Robert’s Wednesday Night Market in Kalapana – that was totally special. I could have sat on the upper deck and watched the ocean for the rest of my days. The prefect location for looking out and watching everything start each morning. We had turtles in the surf, Nene’s on the grounds and flying by. It was so close to Pahoa and Hilo that we could quickly get to shops, stores, markets and restaurants. We really enjoyed going to dinner at Kaleo’s in Pahoa for evening music and food. We also had lunch at Nings Thai food restaurant in Pahoa. The drive to Volcano National Park was quick and easy. Watching the Pali Hale web site to track the level of the lava lake gave us the right days to visit the park. Our daughter and her boyfriend took a walk on the Puna Trail to arrive at the Shipman Estate and beach. This quiet and isolated beach allowed them to view turtles, fish and Nenes. They also drove to the end of the road in Kalapana, rented bikes and ride to the end of the trail to see the lava flow entering the ocean. Pali Hale is really close to the Kapoho Tide Pools and the Lava Tree Park. We went snorkeling in the tide pools at high tide and then on the way back to Pali Hale we stopped and walked the peaceful 0.7 mile loop trail that was perfect just before sunset and the park closing – quiet, sounds of birds and had the sweet light of sun setting. With everything provided for us at Pali Hale and the surrounding area, we only turned on the TV to listed to the Music Choice Hawaiian channel. I strongly recommend Pali Hale to anyone and everyone that wants a great house on the coast, in a quiet neighborhood, near everything that is fun on the East side of the Big Island. The best sunrises on the island

Jon from Seattle, WA – March, 2017

“Mike and Bo’s home is perfect for groups or family’s looking for a relaxing time on the Hilo side of the island. It’s in close proximity to all of the east side attractions. Probably some of the best sunrises on the island from the home as well. Mike and Bo have Pali Hale well stocked and ready for your island getaway. We had our toddler traveling with us and Mike had a Pack ‘n Play set-up for us, including some children’s books and toys!”

The sights and sounds were incredible!

Gaynard from Minnesota – March, 2017

“We had a wonderful stay at Mike and Bo’s place in Hilo on the Big Island. The communication, before and during our stay with Mike, was excellent. The home is located in a nice quiet residential area and with-in easy and short driving distances to many attractions, Hilo, restaurants, Volcano National Park and scenic drives. We were impressed with the quality and upkeep of the home. It is right on the ocean so the sights and sounds were incredible! While there were just two of us, the home is easily designed for many more to comfortably enjoy and relax. There is a lot of room. Thank you Mike and Bo for the opportunity to visit your wonderful place in Hilo! Gaynard and Shari”

When we woke up we could see whales while still laying in bed!

Haley from Redding, CA – February, 2017

“Such a beautiful property! When we woke up we could see whales while still laying in bed! Great location for our adventures on the Big Island. Mike provided us with lava viewing tips so we took his advice and biked down to the ocean entry – spectacular! Definitely a bucket list item for us. Couldn’t have asked for anything more!”

Breathtaking ocean views

Linda from Sterling, VA – February, 2017

“Pale Hale is a perfect retreat for a relaxing vacation located a short drive from Hilo, but a great location for our Volcano and lava viewing adventures. The house is just as described. Check-in was a breeze. The kitchen is well equipped, the beds were comfortable, the full sized shampoo, conditioner, and soap were lovely, the wi-fi is fast, and the TV worked great. The lanai is huge with breathtaking ocean views and is the perfect place to sit with a delicious cup of Kona coffee in the morning listening to the waves crash on the shore and hopefully see dolphins or whales if you are lucky. For a relaxing holiday, you almost don’t need to leave the house if you don’t feel like it. But Mike and Bo have provided lovely amenities for you to enjoy the area like beach towels, snorkel equipment, and binoculars. Mike was super attentive and answered all of my questions quickly and provided a detailed briefing with excellent recommendations for shopping, activities, and restaurants in the area. Mike was a gracious and helpful host who even contacted the lava guide company directly to double check that they would be showing us the surface flows and ocean entry point. We will definitely be returning to Pale Hale someday soon. Mahalo.”

More than perfect!

捷 王 from China – February, 2017

“More than perfect. the house has everything you need and the location is just 20 yards behind the coast line. Our experience was so enjoyable and unforgettable. I highly recommend every person and family to choose this house when traveling to the Big Island.”

Incredibly beautiful, and truly a photographer’s paradise.

Sylvia from Orange Beach, AL – January, 2017

“Pali Hale was home away from home. It is very spacious, comfortable and welcoming. The location was incredibly beautiful, and truly a photographer’s paradise. Mike and Bo have taken care of so many details to ensure that guests have every thing needed for a wonderful stay. And they also provided very helpful information about the area. I watched whales from the back deck, and took photographs of the stars just steps away from the house because there is so little light pollution in the area. The stars were just spectacular, as well as the sunrise!”

This place is fantastic. Right on the lava cliff shoreline!

Joe from Reno NV – January, 2017

“This place is fantastic. Right on the lava cliff shoreline. Very spacious, modern, and all the comforts of home. Kind of a secluded neighborhood; as far as I could tell the nearest grocery is about 10 miles away. That being said it is very nice to fall asleep and wake up to the sound of pounding surf right outside your screen door. Easy drive to volcano and many other attractions. I would definitely stay there again.”

A wonderfully spacious home away from home!

Brooke from Kailua HI – January, 2017

“The view is spectacular and this home has everything you could possibly need. The kitchen is well equipped and there are tons of extra linens in case you need extra towels, etc… Communication with the owner was top notch – very responsive and gracious hosts! No problems whatsoever and would definitely stay here again and recommend to others looking to stay on the Hilo side.”

Clean, Spacious, and Amazing Views!

Al from Madison WI – January, 2017

“Mike and Bo’s oceanfront place has to be one of the best on the Hilo side of the island. Clean, spacious, awesome views (we’ve been watching dolphins and turtles for 4 days) and not far from a ton of great things to do. Mike has been super attentive to all our questions: rapid response and great information and suggestions. Also really thoughtful about amenities and extras, like binoculars and snorkeling equipment. Five stars is not enough for Pali Hale.”

An amazing home and everything that we wished for.

Shyam from Pennsylvania PA – January, 2017

“Mike and Bo were great hosts! We arrived early morning at 8AM to the airport and they accommodated an early check-in for us. Also the weather was very wet and dreary and many of our original plans were being cancelled. Mike went above and beyond and helped plan many activities for us. You get the house as you see it but with many amenities. They are very helpful and accommodating that my father is planning to return to Hawaii and wishing to stay here again!”

A Wonderful Place!

We loved our time!

“I can’t imagine a better place to have spent Christmas! We loved sitting watching the sunrises, the waves crashing into the shore line and splashing up. The house had everything we needed and more! Its location was perfect, close enough to see anything you might want, especially Hilo and the volcano (a must do after dark). Thank you for all your help, you helped to make our dream vacation in Hawaii happen. From the moment we arrived until the time we left the accommodations perfect. You can’t go wrong renting Pali Hale!”

Better than I ever expected!

Date of Stay December 24, 2015

While visiting our son who was working at the Volcanoes National Park, we stayed at Pali Hale for 8 nights over the Thanksgiving break. The home is absolutely beautiful. We knew that, while in Hawaii for the first time, we wanted to stay near the water. This home provided a Hawaii experience that we will never forget. The sound of the crashing waves against the rocks was truly amazing. There were only three of us and originally I thought the home might be too large for us. But my teenage son was able to take over the first floor bedroom and sleep in, while my husband and I took the master suite on the second floor and were able to get up early and have coffee out on the balcony. The view from every room was amazing. I was able to cook a Thanksgiving dinner in the full equipped kitchen with no problems. Thank you for providing the beach towels as well. That was a big help! I can think of nothing Pali Hale is lacking. We explored the whole island from the convenient location. I only wish we had more time to spend at the house. Thank you for their fabulous suggestions for things to do, maps, and directions for everything you would ever while in Hawaii. We’re coming back, someday, Pali Hale!

We’ve stayed here many times

Date of Stay September 5, 2015

We’ve been staying at this house for many years. It’s not only a great place to relax at the end of a busy day, it’s also a great place if you don’t want to do anything! We’ve spent the entire day just hanging out watching dolphins, turtles and whales from the shaded lanai. Don’t let the lack of A/C scare you away. It isn’t needed as long as the windows are open to catch the ocean breeze. Also, there are ceiling fans in every room. Quiet street perfect for a leisurely walk or a brisk run. You can even hike up the coast from the end of the street. That’s a great way to spend the day. We love the neighborhood so much we bought a lot nearby. Why stay at a hotel when you can have so much more here?

Absolute paradise.

“Thank you. We absolutely loved our stay at Pali Hale! The house was comfortable and had everything we needed to cook all our meals there. The peacefulness of sleeping with the doors open, listening to the waves (and whales) was unforgettable. The house was clean and bright and we will definitely consider a stay again in the future! I can only think of two things to mention about some improvements. Lounge chairs for sunning and repairing the screens in the master bathroom. Many thanks for sharing your wonderful home!!”

Our piece of Ocean Front Paradise

Date of Stay February 2, 2015

“We rented this house last minute & were surprised it was available. There was 3 of us so we had plenty of room. When we entered the home, the windows were open and a nice breeze was flowing through. There are ceiling fans throughout. The home was very clean and bright. The kitchen is spacious with a massive counter top that can accommodate lots of prep work. It had all of the amenities that we needed & we ate most of our meals at the house. The master bedroom is upstairs with the kitchen, living room, dining area. It has a spacious king bed with a sliding door out to the upper balcony. It doesn’t have curtains, but there is plenty of room in the bathroom/walk-in closet to change. At night is not a problem and overall the area is private. The master bathroom shower was awesome as it had 2 shower heads. The half bath is also upstairs which is convenient. The down stairs has the 2 bdrms & bthrms. We opened up the sliding doors which allowed for lovely breezes. The home does not have A/C, but we never felt it was needed. Now to the view… it is absolutely gorgeous! We were out on the balconies a lot!. You can’t swim from the property as it’s about 40 ft down from the edge & is very rocky & lots of awesome waves crashing against the rocks! We were there during whale migration season & seen whales every day! 3 Nene’s came at the same time each day & hung out. During whale migration season I would recommend bringing some binoculars if you can. Neighbours are great on both sides. There’s not really much foliage in between the homes, but never felt it was needed. There is a BBQ… it’s charcoal & well used. We drove over to Kailua-Kona & stopped by Costco & bought steaks. We had no experience with a charcoal BBQ but the ACE hardware store about 10 minutes from the house had charcoal that didn’t require lighter fluid & lit up right away. We had to purchase a lighter & brush as we were unable to locate either item, we left them there. In the end, we would stay at Pali Hale again in a heartbeat! We absolutely fell in love with it!!! We didn’t want to leave! Note: Groceries are pricey, Foodland & KTA asked us for our ph# which gave us the sale prices if applicable. If you can, go to the home prior to shopping & find out what’s there it’ll save you money & from buying duplicates (there’s now about 200 coffee filters) we shopped first!”

What a view!

“What a view! We really enjoyed our visit on the island and especially at your place. Everything was neat and clean and the wonderful breeze that made for such a wonderful time. We enjoyed watching the whales and the nenes. We visited most of the suggested sites and also enjoyed talking with the neighbors. They were very helpful and nice answering all of our questions prior to the trip. Aloha.”

Pali Hale

We really enjoyed our stay at Pali Hale. We woke up to amazing sun rises every morning. There were whales visible from the deck. The house had all the comforts of home. Sleeping in the big comfy bed and falling asleep to the sound of waves was HEAVEN. The neighborhood was also great. The floors were a little slick being tile but I had read some of the other reviews and for warned the family. Thank you so much for making our stay on the Big Island that much more enjoyable.

Wonderful property and location

Date of Stay December 29, 2014

“This is an excellent property that is in a beautiful location, is spacious, well equipped and was perfect for our group. It is a 20-30 minute drive from Hilo, but a perfect location for exploring this side of the island during day trips to Waipio Valley to Volcano National Park and the entire Puna coast. The two large living spaces on both floors was perfect for us to spread out and have extra room. The place was clean, well appointed, and relaxing after long days of exploring the island. Two of the bedrooms have ocean views. The third is not as awesome, but is great for someone who likes to sleep in since it doesn’t get the morning sun. The full wrap around porches on both floors are wonderful. The high cliffs in the back yard do not provide access to the ocean, but hours of amazing waves crashing against the lava cliffs. We saw a giant sea turtle, dolphins and occasional glances of whales in the distance. It was delightful and charming and highly recommended.”

“This house fit our family of 6 adults well. Our stay of 3 days in mid-December 2014 was too short. We enjoyed snorkeling, swimming, tide pools, natural warm spas, hiking, biking to Richardson Beach, Volcano National Park, zip lining Akaka Falls & several nearby towns & local eateries. All within short drive or couple hours bike ride from Pali Hale. View of sunrise from the deck of this house is spectacular! The house was clean & all appliances were in working order. Very welcoming place to come home to after a long day of adventures.

Pali Hale – Amazing ocean front views

Date of Stay November 5, 2014

“A well laid out open floor plan with ocean views everywhere you turn while inside the home. Enjoyed daily walks along the cliff to Kaloli Point while watching fishermen haul in their catch from time to time. The home was a perfect place to relax after days of sightseeing around the Puna district and time at the beaches. The ocean views and sounds are always there for your enjoyment. The large kitchen counter top could handle prep work with room to spare. The two en-suite bathrooms were plenty for our foursome to use throughout our stay. It was very easy to book the home through and our deposit was promptly refunded shortly after our stay had ended. Mahalo Pali Hali!”

Excellent stay

“We were very satisfied with our stay at the house. It has everything that is needed to make your stay comfortable. Very clean and organized with two floors for enjoying the ocean and sunrise views. Absolutely no regrets and would stay here again. If you’re a newlywed the cliff/ocean views would make a great backdrop for some photos settings. Only suggestion is to provide some reclining chairs for guests that might want to basque in the sun while laying near the cliffs and breaking waves. thanks for a great stay.”

Great house, great view…. great vacation!

Date of Stay March 14, 2012

“We stayed three nights here in March. Everything in the description matched what we found we arrived to the house. The house is located a few miles off the main road and is just feet from the ocean. There are two neighbors on each side but we never saw them and there was plenty of “buffer room” between the houses. Each level has a nice lanai (patio) that you can sit on and watch the ocean crash against the rocks until your hearts content. The cliff view was absolutely gorgeous and the house was clean and very spacious.”

The perfect fit for our family

Date of Stay April 10, 2012

“When I first saw this listing on the internet there was only 1 review. Although it was a great review, it made me hesitate to book this house. After much research, I decided to book this house for our 5-night stay. I was definitely NOT disappointed! When we arrived at 9:00 at night, the entire house was lit up as it was for previous guests. This helped tremendously because the house was farther down Paradise Dr. than I originally thought it was. By the way, the house is about 4-5 miles off of Rt. 130, down a very hilly road. We hated the road at first, but by the end of the trip we were laughing as we went down it! The house was perfect for our family! We had 2 elderly family members that shared the master bedroom upstairs, my husband and I shared the master bedroom downstairs, my Mom stayed in the twin/double bedroom, and our 2 young children slept on the futon in the downstairs living room. The cleaning staff even laid out clean linens on the futon for us. We each had our own full bathrooms too as the house has 3 1/2 baths. I was concerned that the house didn’t have A/C, because I’m one of those people that has to have it. However, I have to say that we were pleasantly comfortable without A/C, and the trade winds varied from very windy to non-existent during our stay. The only things I would recommend for improvement is window coverings over the sliding glass doors in both master bedrooms, but especially the downstairs one. Not only did we not have privacy, but we couldn’t sleep in due ot the fact that the house faces the east and the sun comes in first thing in the morning. I’d also recommend a lounge chair (or two) on the upstairs lanai. The chairs and table were nice, but if there were a lounge chair I definitely could have taken a few siesta’s out there! Overall, it was an incredible house! Great location for sight-seeing on that side of the island, and the kitchen was more than adequately stocked! We made breakfast every morning and ate on the lanai. It’s definitely a rental that I would recommend!”

The Cliff House on Paradise Road

Date of Stay January 2, 2011

“When you are renting something on the internet, with no recommendations from friends or ability to check it out ahead of time, you never know what you’re getting until you arrive. We arrived at Pali Hale at 10:00 at night, after being up for 22 hours. We couldn’t believe our eyes when we pulled into the driveway and saw our home, brightly lit up and awaiting our arrival. And it just kept getting better. There are really 3-1/2 baths. The roominess, high ceilings, clerestory above the living room upstairs, walk out to full width porches on two levels from the master bedrooms and living rooms, and Great Room openness was wonderful. Every day began with coffee together on the porch, watching the waves hit the cliffs in both directions, with lovely palm trees augmenting the view. It was the perfect location for day trips to Hawaiian Volcano National Park and other local attractions. We loved it!”
